Introduction

Welcome Year 6 to your learning website for your Disaster Watch unit. This learning website will assist you in your investigation of the causes and effects of catastrophic events such as earthquakes, cyclones and bushfires in Australia and other places in the world. Man-made disasters such as Chernobyl, the Great Fire of London 1666 and the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill will also be explored. You will examine the impact of these disasters on people and the environment and assess how the occurrence of some types of disasters can be prevented or avoided.

Brainstorm the names of specific disasters you know have happened. Add a post to the Wallwisher Disaster Watch page. These posts will give you ideas for keywords for your information search later.

No research is required for your post. Just write the name of the disaster you have brainstormed. You could also add a link to an image, a photo gallery, audio bite or video footage but that is up to you.
